Bowlers World
McKernon bowled over
The Hudson Communications Woodley Spring Classic 2000 saw Bollington bowler, Rob McKernon's determination and drive pay off as he took this year's Classic Final.
The hot spring day was never to deter Rob as he beat Ken Booth 21-18 and then Kerry Morris 21-17. The semi-final brought him up against last year's Classic winner, Wrexham man Dave Jones but Rob was on top form and sent the Welshman home without the trophy he'd proudly held for a year, beating him 21-17.
The other semi-final was probably the best game of the day as Chris Morrison from Sale, having beaten "Express" man Tommy King, faced Yorkshire's own "G.I." Wilson. Morrison was always in front but Wilson was not giving up without a fight and pegged him to all-but across. Wilson led the block only to play his worst two bowls of the day and Morrison was in the final.
The final saw a dominant McKernon who played great bowls and he
took the title 21-14 along with a cheque for £320 and another trophy for his collection.
As usual the Woodley Spring Classic was greatly supported and special thanks must go to this year's sponsor Mr Dave Hudson of Hudson Communications Ltd for his generous support.
